Cameron’s reshuffle promotes Surrey MPs (10th July)

Following the ‘reshuffle’ of the Shadow Cabinet by the Conservative Leader David Cameron, 5 of Surrey’s MPs are now on the Conservative front bench.

Surrey Heath MP Michael Gove’s elevation to the Children, Schools and Families brief, coupled with the promotion of South West Surrey’s Jeremy Hunt to cover Culture, Media and Sport puts them alongside East Surrey’s Peter Ainsworth, Epsom & Ewell’s Chris Grayling and Runnymede & Weybridge’s Philip Hammond in the Shadow Cabinet.

Commenting, Nick Skellett, Leader of SCC and Surrey’s Conservative Group, said, “I am delighted that so many of Surrey’s MPs are on the Conservative front bench. All of our MPs are extremely hard working and talented, and it is god to see their qualities being recognised. Michael Gove and Jeremy Hunt will add their own skills and experiences to the front bench, and will help to make a good team even better”.

David Munro, Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group, added, “It is always good to see Surrey’s MPs being recognised, particularly Jeremy Hunt who I know very well as my local MP, and Michael Gove, who has also been promoted. I look forward to seeing Surrey’s 11 Conservative MPs, in whatever capacity they serve, taking the fight to Gordon Brown’s Labour government”.
