SCC Conservatives support the Transport Co-ordination Centre and condemn Lib-Dem ‘confusion’ (27th July)

At this week’s Full Council meeting Conservative Leader Nick Skellett and the Executive Member for the Environment David Munro, amongst other Conservatives, condemned a Liberal Democrat motion as ‘superficial’, ‘ill-informed’, ‘unfair’ and ‘silly’.

The Lib-Dems had tabled a motion regarding Surrey’s Transport Co-ordination Centre, but appeared ill–prepared to debate it. Whilst their Leader at County Hall called for the establishment of a TCC, a number of Conservatives reminded those present that the TCC already exists.

Commenting Mr. Munro remarked, “there appeared to be a great deal of confusion on the Lib-Dem benches. Their Leader was calling for the creation of something that was been set up two years ago whereas some of her Group acknowledged that it was in existence, they got their facts wrong on a number of points and didn’t appear prepared to debate their own motion. It really was a remarkable performance for all the wrong reasons”.

Mr. Skellett added, “most Council meetings, if not all, see motions on areas of concern to members being debated. I am somewhat surprised, therefore, that those who brought forward the motion appeared not to have researched their subject fully. The staff of SCC’s Transport Coordination Centre are working very hard, and I am surprised that some Members are not aware of their work.

I would hope that the next time the Lib-Dems put a motion forward to Council they have done their homework and know what they are talking about”.
