Surrey Conservatives mourn the sad loss of Maurice Neighbour (20th November)

It is with extreme regret that the Conservative Group on Surrey County Council announce the untimely death of Maurice Neighbour. He passed away in Frimley Park Hospital on the evening of Tuesday 18th November after a short period of illness and the news has come as a great shock.

Nick Skellett, Leader of the Conservative Group on Surrey County Council said the following; “Maurice’s death has come as a great shock to all of us and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Andree and their family. We knew that he had been in hospital but the news had appeared to be encouraging and we were hoping to welcome him back to County Hall some time in the New Year. Maurice was a very well liked Member of the County Council and will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him, even those who only knew him for a short time – such was his kind hearted and positive demeanour.

Whether he was acting as a local Member, a Member of the Police Authority or a Committee chairman he always strove to be fair & courteous and to treat everyone with respect. The people of Camberley East have lost a great champion and we are saddened that he will be unable to return to us to serve out the remainder of his term of office. County Hall will somehow seem less ‘fun’ without Maurice around”.

David Ivison, who chairs the Surrey Heath Local Committee, also paid tribute to Maurice; “Maurice represented Camberley East since May 1997 and represented it very well. He was a tireless campaigner for the people he represented as well as for Surrey Heath and indeed the entire County. He was also a great friend to those of us who had the pleasure of working with him and was a great help to those of us with less experience of local government than he had. He was always there with words of encouragement and helpful suggestions and his sense of humour would always lighten the mood.

I personally will miss him greatly, and I know others will too”.
