Surrey Lib-Dems talk green but act Brown (24th April)

Surrey Conservatives have today warned residents that if Surrey County Lib-Dems got their way the county’s green spaces would be under threat. Whilst Surrey Conservatives are opposing Gordon Brown’s South East Plan, which would see yet more housing built in Surrey’s green spaces, the Lib-Dems are supporting proposals that would see yet more of Surrey’s green spaces swallowed up by housing.

Surrey County Conservatives Leader, Andrew Povey, has expressed himself ‘astonished’ to hear of former MP Sue Doughty’s support for a large-scale housing development in the south of the county near the border with West Sussex which could see traffic in the area doubling and which would see a noticeable difference in HGV movements.

It is simply breathtaking hypocrisy for the Lib-Dems to oppose something in principle but endorse it in practice. The proposed development at Dunsfold is too large, wouldn’t have adequate infrastructure and would increase the amount of traffic on local roads. The proposals have not been thought through properly and would not benefit local people.

Supporting this development demonstrates a startling lack of judgement and merely serves to illustrate why she is an ex-MP rather than a serving one.

The people of Surrey, and South-West Surrey in particular, will not benefit from ill-thought out housing developments.

Only Surrey Conservatives will stand up to Labour in opposing these sorts of developments”.
