Surrey County Conservatives thank the electorate for their support (9th June)

Following a day of widespread success for the Conservative Party across the Country Andrew Povey has thanked the electorate for their support in returning a Conservative administration to County Hall.
“I am pleased that the people of Surrey have seen fit, once again, to put their trust in the Conservatives to run Surrey County Council. I think they have recognised that as a Council we suffer from low and politically motivated underfunding from central government, and they also saw through the negative campaigning from the Liberal Democrats.
I believe that in expressing our opposition to large-scale inappropriate developments we have shown the public that we are on their side and we promise to continue to oppose centrally dictated targets for housing. Developments in Surrey should aim to help the people of Surrey, not to allow boxes to be ticked in Whitehall”.
Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group, David Hodge, added his thoughts;
“The Lib-Dems lost their spokesman on the Environment and also their Spokesman on Transport. The electorate has made their views known.
We have run a positive campaign looking to the future, and we hope that in four years time the electorate will see the benefits of our work.
Under Nick Skellett the previous Conservative administration faced many challenges and I am sure that the new team will face many more – but, as with Nick, I know that Andrew Povey is determined to tackle them head on and ensure that Surrey County Council delivers to the people of Surrey the services that they need and deserve.
Nick has achieved many good things for Surrey, and we intend to build on his record”.
