Andrew Povey signs Surrey County Council up to the Federation of Small Businesses ‘small business engagement accord’ (7th July)

“In my speech to Council on 23rd June I said that my administration would take steps to help small businesses in Surrey, and I reiterated this in my report to the Cabinet on 29th June. I have now, at the earliest opportunity fulfilled a key part of that commitment by signing Surrey County Council up to the FSB’s ‘small business engagement accord’. This is not the end of the matter however, as we will now be putting into practice the principles of the accord.
Surrey County Conservatives acknowledge the plight of small businesses in this recession, and recognise the valuable contribution they make to the life and economy of Surrey. We want them to play an active role in the decision making process and we want to help Surrey’s small businesses to help Surrey through Gordon Brown’s recession”.
Lynne Hack, who holds the portfolio for the Environment, added, “when Dr. Povey announced the project with the police to tackle speeding he confirmed Surrey County Conservatives’ commitment to the safety of the people of Surrey; when he announced the introduction of new bursaries for social care students he demonstrated our commitment to the vulnerable of Surrey; when he spoke of a his support for the Greenbelt he reinforced our commitment to the environment of Surrey and; when he outlined his proposals to carry out a root and branch review of the County Council’s budget he once again reminded Surrey’s residents that we are determined to ensure value for money for the Council Tax payer.
Now, by signing this accord, he has shown that Surrey Conservatives are on the side of Surrey’s small businesses.
This Conservative administration is taking real action to address problems of concern to the people of Surrey”.
