Congratulations to all 11 Conservative MPs in Surrey! (7th May)

Conservative County Councillor Jonathan Lord wins Woking!

Dr. Andrew Povey, Leader of Surrey County Council, has expressed his delight that Surrey continues to be represented by 11 Conservative MPs, and has paid tribute to the hard work of all Surrey’s Conservative activists and parliamentary candidates.

I know that all 11 parliamentary candidates have put in an incredible amount of effort, and I am delighted that they all won. I am particularly pleased that my own MP, Anne Milton, has seen her majority increase and that Jonathan Lord has been elected to represent Woking. Jonathan has been a good local councillor in Surrey, and before that in Westminster, and he will make an invaluable contribution in the House of Commons – as will all our MPs.

We have a great team of MPs to represent Surrey, and whilst the national picture looks somewhat unclear, one thing stands out: Surrey has, again, voted Conservative, and Surrey knows that it has 11 committed, hard-working & outstanding MPs who will represent Surrey with tenacity and drive.

I look forward to working with them to lobby whichever government we end up with to secure the best possible deal for Surrey’s residents and businesses”.

David Hodge, Deputy Leader of Surrey County Council, added, “Firstly I am really pleased that Sam Gyimah has been elected to represent East Surrey, where I live. Sam will make an excellent MP, and will be a part of an excellent team of MPs. Along with Jonathan Lord (Woking), Dominic Raab (Esher & Walton) & Kwasi Kwarteng (Spelthorne) we have a good intake of new MPs, who will add to the 7 existing Conservative MPs who were re-elected.

This has been a good night for Surrey”.

Dr. Povey concluded with a message of congratulations for Henry Smith, Leader of West Sussex and the newly elected MP for Crawley, “I am also pleased to see that my counterpart in West Sussex, Henry Smith, has been elected to represent the people of Crawley. He has a good knowledge of the problems, challenges and opportunities facing local government and the South-East, and I know that he will be a first class MP”.

Surrey County Conservatives would like to thank every Conservative activist who has helped in Surrey’s parliamentary elections for their hard work and dedication.
