Surrey Conservatives express sadness at death of popular county councillor (12th May)

The Chairman of Surrey County Council, Geoff Marlow, has expressed his sadness at the death of county councillor Mike Nevins.

Mr Marlow said: "Everyone at Surrey County Council was very sorry to hear that Mike had lost his fight against cancer. During his five years on the council he was a popular colleague as well as a strong advocate for his constituents, serving as the chairman of the Guildford Local Committee between 2009 and 2010. Our thoughts go out to his wife Rhoda and son Mark at this difficult time".

Mr Nevins, who was a professional photographer, was elected to represent Worplesdon in 2005 and in addition to his work on the Guildford Local Committee served on the Planning and Regulatory Committee and Environment and Economy Select Committee.

In addition to his work for Surrey County Council, Mr Nevins had represented the Pirbright ward on Guildford Borough Council since 1999 serving as the borough’s mayor between 2007 and 2008.
