Vote Blue Go Green (20th July)

New mileage proposals will be good for the environment.

Andrew Povey, Leader of Surrey County Council, today unveiled a new mileage allowances regime that will encourage the use of greener cars amongst Councillors.

As Conservatives we are committed to the environment, and we in Surrey have demonstrated that with our decision to move Surrey County Council away from incinerators and in our opposition to the house-building targets of the last Labour Government.

Today, again, in a small but not insignificant way we have demonstrated this.

The new mileage regime will allow those will less polluting cars to continue to claim at 40p per mile, but those with more polluting cars will be able to claim at a lower rate. We want to make Surrey a byword for green innovation, and I hope that this will help us in that aim” – Richard Walsh, vice-Chairman of the Spelthorne Local Committee.
