
Michael Gosling (Banstead South);

Michael has been a member of Surrey County Council since May 2005. On his election he became a member of the Adult & Community Care and Corporate Management Select Committees. In addition, he was and is, a member of the Surrey County Council/Reigate & Banstead Local Committee.
In his second year he became Chairman of the Corporate Management Select Committee whose remit was the scrutiny of all the back office and budgetary departments of the Council, a position he held for 2 years. During this period he also remained a member of the Adults’ Committee.
In 2008 he became a member of the County Executive, the decision-making group of members, as the Executive Member for Resources. This role covered many of the departments scrutinised by the Corporate Management Select Committee.
Following the 2009 election, he became the Cabinet Member responsible for Adult Social Care in Surrey. In this role he oversees the department that is concerned with all adult care matters for residents of Surrey from 18+ to their older years, an area that requires a great deal of realignment due to the personalisation and the change over to Self-Directed Support (SDS), whilst containing expenditure as required by the current economic conditions.
He is also a member of the Pensions Panel known as the Investment Advisors' Group.
Michael regularly attends the six residents’ groups within his division which covers in Banstead South the villages of Burgh Heath, Kingswood, Lower Kingswood, Tadworth and Walton on the Hill. In addition, he is Chairman of the Preston Regeneration Board and Chairman of the governors of Walton on the Hill Primary School.
Michael is a retired business man (a partner in a packaging and machinery company which operated world-wide).
Michael is married with 4 sons, 2 of whom are still in full-time education, and lives in Kingswood.
